Chuy attended the University of Guadalajara in Mexico. He speaks both English and Spanish fluently. His family includes his wife Mayra and their son, born in 2019. Chuy's wife, Mayra Perez Hernandez, also serves as one of his coaches.

Coaching and Club

Chuy trains with the Jalisco State club in Mexico. His coaching team includes his wife Mayra Perez Hernandez, Jesus Garcia, and Enrique Alvarado. This strong support system has been crucial to his success in powerlifting.

Injuries and Challenges

Chuy has faced several injuries throughout his career. In 2019, he sustained a right shoulder injury at the World Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. More recently, he tore a tendon in one of his shoulders in 2023.
