Josh Prenot Biography

Prenot's dedication paid off when he won a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, his journey hasn't been without setbacks. In early 2018, he suffered a shoulder injury that impacted his performance.

Philosophy and Training

Prenot believes in a healthy level of stubbornness and internal motivation. He uses a diary to analyse his performances and correct mistakes. "Swimming is a sport where you control your own outcome," he says. His approach focuses on self-improvement rather than competing against others.

Family and Personal Life

Josh is married to Tiffany Sudarma, who has represented Indonesia in swimming, including at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai. They reside in Berkeley, California. Josh holds a degree in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Break from Competitive Swimming

In June 2021, Prenot announced a break from competitive swimming after missing out on qualification for the 200m breaststroke at the 2020 US Olympic Trials. He mentioned not racing for at least a year but did not rule out a return to the sport.

Post-Olympic Blues

After winning his Olympic silver medal, Prenot took a break from swimming but struggled upon his return. Missing out on the US team for the 2017 World Championships taught him not to take good form for granted. He realised the importance of daily practice to maintain his skills.

Military Upbringing

Prenot attributes his strong work ethic to his military upbringing. His father, Bill, was a lieutenant colonel with the US Air Force. The family moved to California when Bill was transferred to Vandenberg Space Force Base. Josh was home-schooled and competed for the Santa Maria Swim Club.

Current Occupation

Outside of swimming, Josh has worked as an intern in the insights and analytics team for LA28, the organisers of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Future Plans

As of July 2024, Josh Prenot continues to explore opportunities both within and outside of swimming. His analytical skills and experience make him a valuable asset in various fields.
