At the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, Taylor secured a gold medal in the Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:10.16. He also earned bronze medals in the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay and Men's 4 x 100m Medley Relay. His individual performance in the Men's 200m Freestyle placed him 20th.

In the recent competitions, Taylor's team ranked second in the Men's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay and third in the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay. These events took place at Paris La Defense Arena on July 27 and July 30, respectively.

Kai Taylor hails from South Brisbane, Queensland, and resides in Brisbane. He is a student at Griffith University. His mother, Hayley Lewis, is a three-time Olympian who won two medals at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. This makes Kai and Hayley only the second mother-son duo to compete in swimming for Australia at the Olympics.
