Karim's journey in equestrian sports began at the age of eight. His uncle, Pierre Defrance, introduced him to riding during a holiday. This early exposure ignited his passion for the sport, leading him to join Ecurie Karim Laghouag in France.

Karim's training regime is rigorous. It includes cycling, running, and conditioning exercises. He is coached by Jean-Luc Force for personal training and Maxime Collard and Delphine Bertrameux for dressage.

One of Karim's most notable achievements is winning gold in the team competition at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This victory earned him the title of Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 2016.

Injuries and Challenges

Throughout his career, Karim has faced several injuries. In 2000, he sustained six pelvic fractures. At age two, he suffered a fractured hip that left him immobilised for four years. In 2009, he dislocated his elbow during the European Championships in Fontainebleau.

In addition to equestrian sports, Karim began participating in national equestrian jumping competitions in 2017. He also opened stables with his partner Camille in Ile-de-France in 2008. In 2014, they settled at La Ribaudiere stables in Nogent-le-Rotrou.
