Keesja Gofers Biography

Gofers' early exposure to water polo came when her sister's U14 team needed more players. She filled in and quickly developed a passion for the sport. She currently plays for the Sydney University Lions in Australia. Her preferred position is Driver, and she is right-handed.

International Debut and Achievements

Gofers made her international debut in 2010 at the World League tournament in San Diego, CA, USA, representing Australia. Her notable achievements include winning silver at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona and securing the Australian league title in 2016 and 2017. She also competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Coaching and Mentorship

Throughout her career, Gofers has been coached by Scott Nicholson (her husband), Scott Henderson at the club level, and Paul Oberman at the national level. Her sporting philosophy is encapsulated in her motto: "Don't wait for the ship to come; swim out to it."

Personal Life and Family

Gofers is married to Scott Nicholson, who has represented Australia in beach handball at the senior level and water polo at the junior level. Her family is deeply rooted in sports; her sister Taniele Gofers won bronze in water polo at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Another sister, Allira Hudson-Gofers, and brother-in-law David Hudson have also competed internationally in handball and beach handball.

Business Ventures

In addition to her athletic career, Gofers launched a corporate team-building business called KGro in 2021. The business combines her passion for floristry with team-building activities. During the 2020 lockdown, she began offering bouquet-making sessions online, which became a unique aspect of her business.

Community Involvement

Gofers has served as an ambassador for Beach Water Polo Fours competition and National Tree Day in Australia. She has also been involved with the athlete commissions of the Oceania Swimming Association and the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS). Additionally, she has worked as an alumni coordinator for Water Polo Australia.

Return to International Competition

After a three-year self-imposed break from international water polo, Gofers returned to compete for Australia in 2013. Her dedication to both her sport and community activities showcases her multifaceted talents and commitment.
