Kellie Wells Biography

In 2008, Kellie pulled a hamstring at the US Olympic Trials. This injury sidelined her for a year, with doctors warning that her elite running days might be over. Despite this setback, she remained determined to continue her athletic career.

Coaching and Philosophy

Kellie trains under the guidance of coach Dennis Mitchell. Her sporting philosophy is simple yet effective: "Train hard, have fun now." This motto has helped her stay focused and motivated throughout her career.

Personal Tragedy and Resilience

Kellie's life has been marked by significant personal tragedy. Her mother was sexually abused by her stepfather, and Kellie herself experienced abuse, leading her to leave home at age 16. Shortly after, she witnessed the aftermath of a car crash involving her stepfather and mother, both of whom died in the accident.

Track became an outlet for Kellie, offering her a way to escape her difficult home situation. It also provided a path to college, as financial constraints would have otherwise made higher education unattainable for her.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Kellie plans to open a foundation aimed at helping abused women and children. She wants to empower individuals to escape bad situations and realise they can achieve better lives. "I want to be helping women and children get out of bad situations and help empower people to know that they can be in a better place," she said.

Kellie's story is one of resilience and determination. Despite facing significant personal and professional challenges, she continues to strive for excellence both on and off the track.
