Based in The Hague, Netherlands, this athlete's journey in sports began in 2004. Initially involved in football while living in Morocco, he struggled to find a suitable club after moving to the Netherlands. Following his cousin, he tried Thai boxing but faced difficulties with the technique. His father, concerned about the sport's dangers, encouraged him to pursue running instead.

Throughout his career, his wife has been a significant influence. "Without her, I wouldn't be where I am now," he says. He also looks up to Moroccan middle-distance runner Hicham El Guerrouj and Dutch long-distance runner Kamiel Maase as his idols.
His career has not been without challenges. In 2018, he suffered a shoulder injury during the Rotterdam Marathon, forcing him to withdraw after 36 kilometres. Earlier, a calf injury at the 2015 European Cross Country Championships in Hyeres, France, also set him back.
Athletic talent runs in his family. His cousin Tarik is a national champion in Thai boxing in the Netherlands. This connection to sports within his family has been a source of inspiration and motivation for him.
Missing out on the 2016 Olympic Games by just 30 seconds was a significant disappointment for him. However, this setback fuelled his determination for the 2020 Games in Tokyo. "Five years later, I have qualified for Tokyo," he says proudly. This achievement has made his training sessions more enjoyable and fulfilling.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought its own set of challenges but also some unexpected benefits. With competitions on hold, he focused solely on training for the marathon. He even took up kickboxing again to shift his focus during this period. "The COVID-19 time did me well," he reflects.
In June 2007, he tested positive for stanozolol during an out-of-competition test and was suspended for two years by the Royal Dutch Athletics Federation. This period was tough, and he considered retiring from the sport. However, it also taught him valuable lessons and made him mentally stronger.
As of July 2024, he continues to reside in The Hague and remains dedicated to his athletic career. Fluent in Dutch and English, he is an integral part of Haag Atletiek and looks forward to future competitions with renewed vigour.
