Kimberly García Biography

Garcia's journey in athletics started early. "At age five my father sent me to train with her. I wanted to imitate her and I liked it," she recalls. Her coach's encouragement played a crucial role in motivating her to pursue the sport seriously.

Coaching and Training

Pedro Canizares has been a guiding force in Garcia's career. His insights and training methods have helped shape her into a formidable athlete. Garcia has also worked with a psychologist to overcome fatigue during races, particularly around the 17-kilometre mark in the 20km walk.

Achievements and Challenges

One of Garcia's memorable achievements is winning silver in the 20km walk at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. However, this success came with challenges. She experienced pain in her right knee a month before the event, later diagnosed as a stress fracture in her shinbone.

Despite the injury, Garcia competed and secured a silver medal. The effort caused fluid buildup in her lower right leg, necessitating surgery. This injury forced her to miss the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Awards and Honours

Garcia's accomplishments have earned her several accolades. In 2019, she received the Libertarian Sun distinction from the Junin department government in Peru. She was also the flag bearer for Peru at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

Outside of athletics, Garcia enjoys drawing and origami. These hobbies provide a creative outlet and balance to her rigorous training schedule.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Garcia aims to win gold at the upcoming Olympic Games. Her dedication to training and mental preparation underscores her commitment to achieving this goal.

Inspirations

Ecuadorian race walker Jefferson Perez is one of Garcia's idols. His achievements and dedication to the sport have inspired her throughout her career.

Kimberly Garcia's journey is marked by determination and resilience. From early beginnings to overcoming injuries, she continues to strive for excellence in athletics while balancing her studies at Continental University in Peru.
