Valentin made history again by becoming the first Spanish weightlifter to win an Olympic gold medal. She was retrospectively awarded gold for the 75kg category at the 2012 Games under similar circumstances. At the 2017 World Championships in Anaheim, she became the first Spanish lifter to win a gold medal at the world championships.
