Darmanin enjoys the passion that sailors have for the sport. She is a member of the Middle Harbour Yacht Club in Sydney and is coached by Darren Bundock. Her sporting philosophy is clear: "Destiny is a matter of choice. It’s not something to be waited for, it’s a thing to be achieved."

Darmanin has received several accolades throughout her career. She was named Female Sailor of the Year by Yachting Australia in 2015 and 2016. In 2012, she was honoured as Sportswoman of the Year by the University of New South Wales. A significant milestone came in 2016 when she and her cousin Jason Waterhouse won silver in the Nacra 17 class at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Darmanin's family has a strong sailing background. She and her cousin Jason Waterhouse have competed together since 2008, winning their first medal in 2009 at the Youth World Championships in Brazil.
