Lisa Nordén Biography

Norden's initial foray into triathlon was not smooth. She cycled from Sweden to Italy in 19 days to test her fitness and completed a small triathlon in Sweden, where she swam breaststroke and finished last out of the pool. Despite this, she continued with horse riding until 2002 when she decided to train seriously for triathlons.

Club and Coaching

She is a member of the Kristianstad Triathlon Club in Sweden and has been coached by Darren Smith from Australia since 2007. Her dedication and training have led her to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

Achievements and Awards

Norden's achievements are noteworthy. She became the first Swedish female triathlete to compete at the Olympic Games, finishing 18th in Beijing in 2008. She also won the U23 World Championship title and stood on the podium with Emma Snowsill and Vanessa Fernandes at the 2008 World Cup series race in Mooloolaba, Australia.

In 2012, Norden won a silver medal at the London Olympic Games. This achievement earned her several awards, including the Bragdguld and Jerring Awards for outstanding achievements, Female Athlete of the Year, and Achievement of the Year at the Swedish Sports Gala.

Norden's career has not been without challenges. She suffered an Achilles tendon injury in March 2015, forcing her to withdraw from the World Triathlon Series event in Auckland. Since the 2012 London Olympics, she has faced tendonitis, thigh injuries, calf problems, eye inflammation, a viral infection in her shoulder nerves, and a concussion during a swimming leg competition.

In June 2011, she was diagnosed with severe tenosynovitis of the flexor hallucis longus tendon after suffering from lower leg problems since January. Despite this, she competed in the ITU World Championship Series London event six weeks later. Additionally, a fall from her bike during rainy training conditions in March 2011 resulted in seven stitches to her chin and face.

Norden resides in Stockholm with her partner Calle Friberg. She speaks English, German, and Swedish fluently and holds a degree in Sports Science. Her mother has been a significant influence on her career, encouraging her pursuits in cycling and triathlon.

Her sporting philosophy is encapsulated by her motto: "Pain is weakness leaving the body." She admires Swedish high jumper Stefan Holm as her hero.
