Inspired by his brother and father, Cupido developed a passion for water polo early on. He transitioned from swimming to water polo after two years, appreciating the sport's complexity. "In water polo you have to excel physically and in your knowledge of the game," he said.

Cupido made his international debut in 2014, representing the United States at the World Cup held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Since then, he has been a key player for the national team, primarily playing as a centre forward.

In 2017, Cupido received the prestigious Peter J. Cutino award during his senior year with the University of California Golden Bears. The same year, he was named the ACWPC National Player of the Year and MPSF Player of the Year.
