Throughout his career, Mosquera has faced several injuries. In 2013, he suffered a herniated disc while training with the junior national team. This injury worsened in 2015, causing him to miss the World Championships in Houston. He underwent surgery in February 2016 and was out of training for three months.
In September 2017, Mosquera had meniscus surgery on his right knee, which led to him missing the World Championships in Anaheim. Despite continuing pain, another examination revealed a tendon injury, necessitating further surgery in early 2018. Additionally, he has experienced injuries to his wrists, hands, and shoulders.
Mosquera's perseverance has paid off with numerous awards. In 2016, he received a special distinction from the Colombian Olympic Committee for winning a bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. He was also named the 2015 Sporting Revelation of the Year by El Espectador and Movistar in Colombia.
In 2015, he was honoured as Male Athlete of the Year of the Cauca Valley department. His younger brother Jose has also made a mark in weightlifting, winning bronze at the 2017 World Junior Championships in Tokyo.
Mosquera finished fourth in the 69kg category at the 2016 Rio Olympics but was later upgraded to third place after Kyrgyzstani athlete Izzat Artykov was disqualified for doping. The Colombian Olympic Committee presented Mosquera with the bronze medal in March 2019. "I feel very proud. We were waiting for this medal and it has finally arrived," he said.
Mosquera lives by the motto: "Always have goals and try to reach them. When you reach them, make another one and keep going." His ambition is to win a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. With his determination and resilience, Mosquera continues to be a prominent figure in weightlifting.
