Patience is affiliated with the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club (RNCYC) in Scotland. He has been coached by Morgan Resser from the USA. Known by the nickname "LP," Patience has also developed a love for fishing over the years.

One of Patience's most memorable achievements is winning silver in the 470 class at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He cites his parents, British sailor Kirsty Bonar, and Royal Yacht Association official Roy McCubbin as the most influential people in his career. Swiss tennis player Roger Federer is his idol.

Challenges and Superstitions

Patience faced a back injury during the 2009 World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark. Despite this setback, he continued to excel in his sport. He has a lucky charm, a small green man that sits on a cabinet by his bedside every night. His sporting philosophy is to "use stepping stones to set small realistic goals."

Partner Switches and Olympic Ambitions

After winning silver with Stuart Bithell at the 2012 Olympics, Patience switched partners ahead of the 2016 Rio Games. Initially pairing with Joe Glanfield, who retired in 2014, Patience then teamed up with Elliot Willis. However, Willis had to withdraw due to a cancer diagnosis. Patience then partnered with Chris Grube, finishing fifth at Rio 2016.
