In 2017, Manyonga was named Sportsman of the Year by Sport and Recreation South Africa. However, his journey has not been without its challenges. In June 2019, he suffered a soft tissue injury in his left ankle during a Diamond League meet. This injury forced him to miss the World Challenge meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Manyonga's sporting philosophy revolves around self-competition. "I have learnt that you do well if you compete with yourself," he said. He believes that focusing on others can be detrimental to one's performance.
Looking ahead, Manyonga aims to jump over nine metres. "I know for a fact that I was born to break that nine metres barrier. It's just a matter of time," he stated confidently.
Apart from his athletic pursuits, Manyonga is committed to helping others battle addiction. He openly shares his experiences to inspire and support those facing similar struggles. "My life doesn't depend on sport because I'm also a human being," he said.
In 2012, Manyonga tested positive for methamphetamine at a meet in Stellenbosch, South Africa. This led to an 18-month ban from the sport. Reflecting on this period, he said, "I hit rock bottom and my life was a living hell after I was banned for using drugs."
Manyonga's love for jumping extends beyond the track. In his youth, he would jump over cars and fences. He even shared a video on Twitter in April 2019 of him jumping over a car in Paari, South Africa.
Luvo Manyonga's journey is one of resilience and determination. From overcoming personal struggles to achieving professional success, he continues to inspire many both on and off the field.
