Pagey’s interest in sailing was sparked by his older brother. He started sailing at a young age and quickly developed a passion for it. His father has been the most influential person in his career, providing guidance and support throughout his journey.

Education and Hobbies

He pursued higher education in Electrical Engineering at North Sydney TAFE. Outside of sailing, he enjoys golf, surfing, waterskiing, and skiing. These hobbies complement his active lifestyle and keep him engaged in various physical activities.

Victor Kovalenko has been his national coach since 1997. Under Kovalenko’s guidance, Pagey has honed his skills and developed a forward technique that has served him well in competitions.

Achievements and Awards

One of his most memorable achievements is winning gold in the 470 class at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He was named the 2008 Australian Male Sailor of the Year with teammate Nathan Wilmot. Additionally, he was part of the Australian Institute of Sport Team of the Year in 2005, 2007, and 2008.

Challenges and Injuries

Throughout his career, Pagey has faced several injuries. In 1999, he smashed his mouth and chipped four teeth, requiring 12 stitches. He also damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in 1997 and suffered a broken collarbone in 1983. He deals with back problems due to a leg length discrepancy.

Philosophy and Rituals

Pagey lives by the motto "Play fair, and never give up." He also follows a unique superstition of never getting a haircut during a regatta. These beliefs have helped him maintain focus and determination throughout his career.
