Marcus Walz Biography

Walz began his canoe sprint journey at age 12. He took a summer course offered by the RCN Porto Petro club in Majorca, Spain. Inspired by other boys training, he signed up and quickly developed a passion for the sport.

Club and Coaching

He trains with the RCN Porto Petro club in Manacor, Spain. His national coach is Miguel Garcia. Walz's dedication to training is evident in his sporting philosophy: "Training is 24 hours a day, and every decision we make throughout the day will bring us closer or further away from our goal."

Achievements and Recognition

One of Walz's most memorable achievements is winning gold in the K1 1000m event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This victory earned him significant recognition. In 2016, he received the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit from the Ministry of Sport.

The same year, he was named Male Canoeist of the Year by the Royal Spanish Canoe Federation (RFEP), sharing this honour with fellow athletes Cristian Toro and Saul Craviotto.
