Maria Paseka Olympics

Despite her mother's initial refusal due to safety concerns, Maria's persistence led her to try trampoline. Eventually, she switched to artistic gymnastics. This decision was influenced by the variety of apparatus and the opportunity to work different muscle groups.

Maria trains with the Central Sports Army Club and Sambo 70 Olympia in Russia. Her personal coaches are Marina Ulyankina and Valery Ulyankin. Their guidance has been instrumental in her development and success in gymnastics.

Achievements and Injuries

Maria's most memorable achievements include winning gold on vault at the 2015 European Championships in Montpellier, France, and the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. These victories are significant milestones in her career.

However, her journey has not been without challenges. In early 2011, she underwent two rounds of surgery on her heels, taking six months to recover fully. In 2017, she received treatment in Germany for a back injury and underwent surgery in December of that year. This surgery halted her training for about two years.

Awards and Honours

In recognition of her achievements at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016, Maria received the Order for Merits to the Fatherland (first grade) and the Order of Friendship of the Russian Federation. She also holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Russia.

Personal Life and Education

Maria resides in Moscow with her husband Dmitry. She is fluent in English and Russian. She completed her higher education in Physical Education at Moscow City University. Additionally, she has studied at the Smolensk State Academy of Physical Education, Sport and Tourism.

Career Break and Return

In 2020, Maria took a break from competition to start a family. She resumed training in 2021 despite concerns about the impact of pregnancy on her back. Doctors have noted changes in her spine, with one vertebra shifting. For now, her muscles are keeping it in place.
