Marian Dragulescu Biography

Dragulescu's international debut came in 1999, representing Romania. Over his career, he has earned numerous accolades. He is the most decorated male Romanian gymnast at the World Championships, with 10 medals (eight gold, two silver) from 13 appearances between 1999 and 2019.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, he won three medals, making him the second male gymnast from Romania to win multiple Olympic medals. In 2020, he became the first artistic gymnast from Romania to compete in five Olympic Games.

Training and Coaching

Dragulescu trains twice daily, six days a week, under coach Stefan Gal Ciobi at CSA Steaua Bucuresti. His rigorous training regime has been crucial to his success. Despite injuries and health issues, including an Achilles tendon injury in 2019 and cardiac arrhythmia in 2018, he has continued to excel.

Awards and Honours

Dragulescu has received several honours throughout his career. He was named Romanian Athlete of the Year in 2005 and 2009. Additionally, he holds the title of Merited Master of Sport in Romania.

Named Element

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) included the 'Dragulescu' in their Code of Points for vault. This element is a handspring double front somersault with a half-turn. Dragulescu expressed pride in having an element named after him, highlighting its difficulty and beauty.

Dragulescu resides in Bucharest with his son Richard and daughter Beatrice Maria. He speaks English and Romanian fluently. Outside gymnastics, he enjoys playing football, skiing, and cooking.
