Martin Marinov Biography

He was head coach of Australia's canoe sprint team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. In 2016, he coached the Chinese canoe sprint team. Despite winning the C1 1000m at the 2016 National Championships in Perth, he did not compete in Rio due to coaching commitments.

He lives on the Gold Coast, QLD, Australia, with his wife Darina, son Georgi (born in 1992), and daughter Maria-Veronika (born in 1997). He speaks Bulgarian, English, Macedonian, and Russian. He studied Sport Studies at the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Sporting Achievements

In addition to his canoeing career, he was crowned Mr Bulgaria in bodybuilding in 1993. However, he did not compete for Mr Europe or Mr Universe due to the extensive preparation required. He felt that competing at that level demanded skills akin to professional modelling.
