Mashu Baker Biography

His high school coach, Toru Takeuchi, and his university training partner, Fumio Enda, have been the most influential figures in his career. He also looks up to Japanese judoka Kosei Inoue, French judoka Teddy Riner, and Greek judoka Ilias Iliadis.

Education and Club Affiliation

He pursued higher education in Physical Education at Tokai University in Tokyo. He is currently associated with the Japan Racing Association (JRA) and is coached by Michiaki Kamochi at the club level and Kosei Inoue at the national level.

Injuries and Challenges

Throughout his career, he has faced several injuries. In December 2019, he dislocated his right elbow, preventing him from competing at the World Masters in Qindao. Earlier that year, a right hamstring injury required three weeks of rehabilitation.

In 2018, a back problem forced him to withdraw from the Grand Prix in Hohhot. In 2017, he needed surgery on his right shoulder after dislocating it at the All Japan Championships. He returned to action at the 2018 Grand Slam in Dusseldorf.

In 2015, he injured a toe on his left foot during the World Championships in Astana. Despite these setbacks, he has continued to compete at a high level.

He received the Big Sports Award at the 2016 TV Asahi Big Sports Awards. In 2014, he was honoured with the Hiratsuka City Sports Excellence Award.
