Mats began playing hockey at the tender age of three. His passion for the sport was influenced by his family. "I was pretty much born into the hockey club due to my family. My dad used to play hockey himself and we always spent a lot of time at our club. So I kind of had to play hockey," he shared.

Club and Coaches

Currently, Mats plays for Rot-Weiss Koln in Germany. He is coached by Andre Henning at the club level and Kais al Saadi at the national level. His preferred position on the field is midfielder.

International Debut

Mats made his international debut in 2012, representing Germany against New Zealand at the Champions Trophy held in Melbourne, Australia.

Memorable Achievements

One of Mats' most memorable achievements is winning bronze at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He has also been shortlisted for the International Hockey Federation's Young Player of the Year award in 2013.

Together with his brother Tom, Mats organises hockey camps for children. They also run GRMBSHBYS Hockey Manufaktur, which offers a wide range of hockey products. Additionally, Mats is a founder of Flimjo, a company specialising in natural juices and lemonades.
