Denny trains at the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) under the guidance of his personal coach, Graham Pitt. His dedication to the sport has earned him several accolades, including being named QAS Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2013.

In 2020, a rib injury affected Denny for two months. Despite this setback, he continued to train and compete. His older brother Jonathan, a professional rugby league player, has been a significant influence on his career.
