Melissa Humana-Paredes Biography

Humana-Paredes began playing beach volleyball at age 12. Unlike most Canadians who start with indoor volleyball, she started with beach volleyball due to her father's influence. Hernan was an Olympic men's beach volleyball coach and also coached the York University women's indoor team.

Career Highlights

In 2019, Humana-Paredes and her teammate Sarah Pavan won Canada's first-ever beach volleyball world title at the World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. They also became the first Commonwealth Games women's beach volleyball champions in 2018.

Training and Coaching

Humana-Paredes credits her coach Scott Davenport for improving her technical skills and mental approach. She has worked on arm swing mechanics, avoiding shoulder injuries, and passing and digging techniques. This has made her play more efficient and effective.
