In 1983, at the age of 15, he began training in shooting. Initially a swimmer for eight years, he switched sports after breaking his arm while cycling. His father introduced him to a shooting club, sparking his interest in the sport. He trains at the Centre of Olympic Preparation and Kolos in Ukraine.

His wife, Inna Milcheva, is also his coach. Their daughter, Veronika Milcheva, has represented Ukraine in shooting. Veronika ranked fifth in skeet at the 2014 European Junior Championships in Sarlospuszta, Hungary.
He holds the title of Honoured Master of Sport in Ukraine. In 2016, he was elected chairman of the Odessa regional division of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. He has also worked as a coach for the Ukrainian skeet shooting team.
Looking ahead, he aims to continue contributing to the sport as both an athlete and a coach. His dedication to shooting remains strong, and he plans to stay involved in various capacities within the sport.
