Panaji, Oct 25: On the inaugural day of the 37th National Games held at Campal Sports Village, Panaji, Maharashtra's Dipali Gursale and Prashant Koli from the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) made history by breaking national records and claiming gold medals in weightlifting.
In the women's 45 kg category, Gursale set a new national record for the Snatch with a successful lift of 75 kg. She went on to lift a total of 165 kg, securing Maharashtra's first gold medal in this edition of the National Games.
Chandrika Tarafdar from West Bengal shattered the clean-and-jerk national record to win the silver medal, while T. Priya Darshini from Telangana secured the bronze.
Gursale, hailing from Sangli district, broke Komal Kohar's snatch record of 74 kg and Jhilli Dalabehera's total record of 164 kg. Chandrika Tarafdar also surpassed Jhilli's clean-and-jerk record of 94 kg.
Koli, on the other hand, narrowly outperformed Maharashtra's Mukund Aher to claim the gold medal in the men's 55 kg category, beating Aher's national snatch record by one kilogram.
Koli lifted a total of 253 kg (115 kg in snatch and 138 kg in C&J), earning the Services Sports Control Board its second gold medal. S. Guru Naidu of Andhra Pradesh secured the bronze.
In the Women's 49 kg category, Gyaneshwari Yadav won the gold with a total lift of 177 kg, while Preeti from Haryana secured silver with a total of 174 kg. Jhilli Dalbehera, the former Asian Champion in the 45 kg category, took home the bronze, lifting 167 kg.
Charu Pesi of SSCB clinched the gold in the 61 kg men's category, lifting a total of 267 kg, just one kilogram more than Assam's Sidhanta Gogoi, who won the silver medal. Subham Todkar from Maharashtra secured the bronze with a total lift of 263 kg.
In the Women's 55 kg category, Phamdom Ranibala Devi from Manipur secured the gold with a total lift of 196 kg, while Shrabani Das from West Bengal won the silver with a total lift of 187 kg. Odisha's Sneha Soren took home the bronze, lifting 186 kg.

In other events, Haryana dominated the netball competition, securing both gold medals at the Campal Multipurpose Indoor Stadium and moving into second place in the medal standings. The Haryana men's team defeated Kerala 45-42 in a closely contested final, while the women's team triumphed over Karnataka 58-52.
In the men's bronze medal match, Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi played to an exciting 73-73 draw, resulting in a joint victory. In the women's bronze medal match, Delhi and Telangana were also declared joint winners after a 64-64 tie.
At the Peddem Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Maharashtra's Adarsh Anil Bhoir claimed the gold medal in Men's Trampoline Gymnastics, with Manu Murali from SSCB and Ayush Sanjay Muley from Maharashtra securing silver and bronze, respectively.
The Maharashtra women's Rhythmic Gymnastics team, consisting of Kimaya Amalesh Karle, Nishka Chintamani Kale, Richa Sagar Chordia, and Sanyukta Kale, won the gold, with Jammu & Kashmir taking silver and Haryana taking bronze.
At the Athletics Stadium in Bambolim, Women's Rugby 7s kicked off with top-seeded Odisha women dominating Goa with a 52-0 victory in the first match of Pool A. In Pool A, fourth-seeded Kerala defeated Bihar 40-5. In Pool B, second-seeded Maharashtra defeated Karnataka 48-0, while West Bengal overcame Delhi 38-10.
In the men's matches, Haryana defeated Goa 31-0 in Pool A. In the other match in the group, Odisha edged past Kerala 15-12 to start with a win. In Pool B, West Bengal defeated Punjab 19-7, while Maharashtra triumphed over Bihar 19-12.
In basketball, being played at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim, Punjab will face SSCB and Tamil Nadu will meet Delhi in the men's semi-finals on Thursday. In the women's category, Kerala will face Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh will meet Karnataka for a place in the final.
