Asian Games 2023: India's star long-distance runner Avinash Sable made the nation proud by clinching a gold medal in the men's 3000m steeplechase at the ongoing competition in Hangzhou 2022 on Sunday (October 1).
Sable - who also created a Games Record apart from topping the podium with a brilliant timing of 8:19L50s - looked like a different beast altogether in the race as he was leading the race by a big margin.

With his gold, the Indian racer also bagged the 12th yellow metal for the country. It was also the first gold medal for India in the Asian Games 2023 in the track and field event.
29-year-old Sable - who left everyone impressed with his silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham - changed the colour of the medal. The steeplechaser failed to qualify for the finals in the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest. But kept the disappointment aside to bag the top honours.
Sable rewrote the previous Asian Games record of 8:22.79 held in the name of Iran's Hossein Keyhani set at the 2018 Jakarta Games. He is also the first Indian man to win a gold medal in the Asian Games. Sudha Singh had won gold in women's 3000m steeplechase in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
