Golf: Bryson DeChambeau, the reigning US Open champion, is set to make his much-anticipated debut in India at the International Series India.
Hosted at the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurugram, the event marks the first visit of the American golf star to the country, with fans eagerly awaiting the start of the tournament on January 30. DeChambeau's visit is expected to leave a significant imprint on the development of golf in India.

"First off, I want to say thank you to all of India for welcoming me so warmly," said DeChambeau, acknowledging the enthusiasm of Indian fans. He highlighted his long-standing interest in visiting the country and the potential India holds for golf as a burgeoning sport.
"The ability for golf, as a young sport evolving from an older one, is to showcase what it can mean for future generations of India. That's always inspired me," he explained. "My mission in golf is to inspire, entertain, and educate, and I see India as a tremendous opportunity to further that mission."
The 31-year-old, who also triumphed at the 2020 US Open, is part of a star-studded lineup that includes Indian golfing sensation Anirban Lahiri and England's Paul Casey, both of whom are his teammates at Crushers GC in the LIV Golf League. DeChambeau emphasised the role of camaraderie in golf, particularly his bond with Lahiri, which played a pivotal role in his decision to compete in India.
"Anirban is an upstanding individual who genuinely cares about the game and his country. I hold high regard for people like him," DeChambeau said. "When he asked me to play in India, I didn't question it. It's an honour to be here because of him. He's not just a great golfer but someone who stands for something every day."
DeChambeau and Lahiri's relationship dates back to their PGA Tour days and has strengthened through their association in LIV Golf. "He's a consistent player and a great teammate. Beyond golf, he's someone who truly values family and his country, which I deeply admire."
During his visit, DeChambeau also took time to explore Indian culture, visiting the iconic Taj Mahal. The experience left him moved, describing it as "serene and blissful." "The intricacies of how the Taj was built and its sheer beauty make it one of the most stunning pieces of architecture I've ever seen," he shared.
As he prepares to tackle the challenging DLF Golf & Country Club course, DeChambeau acknowledged its reputation. "It's a diabolical course," he joked. "You can't overpower it; you have to be very strategic and methodical. I'm looking forward to giving it my best shot."
The International Series India, with a prize purse of $2 million, is the opening event of the season on The International Series and the second stop on the Asian Tour. DeChambeau's participation, alongside other international stars, underscores the growing significance of India on the global golfing map, a development further propelled by Lahiri's efforts.
With his debut in India, DeChambeau hopes to inspire a new generation of golfers and contribute to the sport's growth in one of the world's largest markets. His presence, coupled with the enthusiasm of Indian stars like Lahiri, promises to take Indian golf to new heights.
