Dhiraj Bommadevara was born on September 3, 2001, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. As a child, Dhiraj developed a passion for archery after hearing stories from the Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata at home. Despite financial challenges, he persevered to become one of India's top young archers.

He pursued his education at SRR and CVR Government Degree College in Vijayawada while competing in recurve men's individual and team events.

Dhiraj comes from Vijayawada. His father, Bommadevara Shravan Kumar, was a technical official of the Archery Association of India, earning a salary of approximately Rs. 5000. His mother, Bommadevara Revathi, is a former school teacher. Despite their financial constraints, Dhiraj's parents supported his archery dreams.

At the age of 5, his father gifted him his first bow and arrow, marking the beginning of his journey in archery. His father even mortgaged his mother's mangal sutra to buy archery equipment for him, highlighting their commitment to his aspirations.

Dhiraj trained at the Cherukuri Volga Archery Academy from 2006 to 2018.
