In an exclusive conversation with myKhel, Bhullar shared his excitement, insights on Indian golf, his goals for the upcoming season and how he keeps himself up and running at this age.

Excitement for the Hero Indian Open 2025

"I'm super excited and happy to be back here after a great season," Bhullar said. "We recently played an event here as part of the International Series, and I ended up doing well. The goal is to step up my game this week and try to improve my best record."

As India's national open, the Hero Indian Open carries special significance for homegrown golfers. "This tournament holds a special place in our hearts, and we'd love to perform well in front of our home crowd," Bhullar emphasized.

Experience of playing in International Series: India

Reflecting on his performance at the recent International Series, Bhullar noted the significance of global players participating in Indian events. "Some of the best golfers in the world came to play in India for the first time. We had DeChambeau, and there was quite a fanfare with over 10,000 spectators turning up. It was great from a fan turnout perspective, especially on the weekend. These moments help grow the game in India."

Though he finished around 20th in the event, Bhullar believes it was a valuable learning experience. "Golf can be cruel on some days and great on others. This week, I'm hoping for a much better result."

Challenges for Indian Golfers at the DLF Course

The Hero Indian Open has not seen an Indian winner since SSP Chawrasia's triumph in 2017. Bhullar believes the depth of Indian golf has significantly improved since then.

"Back then, only a couple of players had the ability to win big tournaments. Now, we have a strong pool of talent with players like Veer Ahlawat, Shubhankar Sharma, and myself. I think the odds are on our side, and I won't be surprised if an Indian golfer wins this year or soon."

Rise of Young Indian Golfers

One name that has caught Bhullar's attention is young amateur golfer Kartik Singh. "I had heard a lot about him, and I finally saw him play a month ago at the International Series. That kid is very good, and he has a bright future ahead. He has a strong team around him, and I wish him all the best. He just needs to keep improving his game and fitness, and I'm sure he will make the country proud."

Targets for 2025

When asked about his personal targets for 2025, Bhullar was clear: "The goal is simple - win a golf tournament every year. I've been able to do that consistently, except last year when I struggled a bit in the first half. This year, I am hoping for a strong start, which will set up a solid second half of the season."

Staying Fit and Motivated

Despite being one of the senior players on the circuit, Bhullar remains highly motivated. "I still go to the gym four times a week and maintain a disciplined diet. Avoiding unhealthy food has helped me stay fit and competitive."

When asked about his cheat meals, he laughed, "I'm quite disciplined. I don't indulge in parathas or heavy, oily food, but I do enjoy tandoori naan once in a while."

Looking Ahead to Hero Indian Open 2025

With experience, skill, and a deep understanding of the game, Bhullar is determined to make his mark at the Hero Indian Open. "The key will be consistency, and I am confident about my game. It's time to put my best foot forward and aim for a great finish."

As the Hero Indian Open 2025 kicks off, all eyes will be on Bhullar and the Indian contingent, hoping to bring the title home after years of waiting.
