Hero Women's Indian Open 2026: Vani Kapoor Takes One-Shot Lead Into Final Round
Gurugram, October 24: India's Vani Kapoor produced a superb performance to take a slender lead at the end of the third round of the Hero Women's Indian Open 2026 at the challenging DLF Golf and Country Club on Saturday (October 24).
Vani carded a second successive three-under-par 69 to move to five-under 211, while defending champion Shannon Tan of Singapore and Thailand's three-time champion Pornanong Phatlum remained hot on her heels, a stroke behind.

The 32-year-old Indian pro from Delhi, who started the day tied seventh, followed her opening-round 73 with back-to-back 69s to emerge as the frontrunner heading into Sunday's final round.
Tan, meanwhile, produced the best round of the day among the leading contenders, firing a five-under-par 67 to reach four-under 212. Phatlum also carded a three-under 69 to join the Singaporean at second place.
With the leaderboard tightly packed, the final round promises little room for error at the Gary Player-designed course, where accuracy and composure will be crucial in the title battle.
Vani Kapoor Draws Strength From Family and Friends
As she prepares to challenge for a title she has never won, Vani is drawing confidence from the support system around her. The Indian golfer said having family and friends nearby would help her remain grounded as she approaches the biggest round of her tournament.
"They will keep reminding me that 18 holes are left, and there is work to be done, and that will help," Vani said after her third round.
Her familiarity with the DLF Golf and Country Club layout has been an advantage through the week. However, with Tan and Phatlum just one shot behind, Vani will need another composed performance to convert her advantage into a maiden Hero Women's Indian Open title.
Pranavi Urs Battles Illness and Fatigue to Stay in Contention
Saturday also proved to be a productive day for the Indian contingent, with three home golfers featuring inside the top 10. Pranavi Urs, who was tied second overnight, slipped slightly but remained firmly in contention, finishing tied fourth at three-under 213 alongside Argentina's Magdalena Simmermacher.
Pranavi, the Hero brand ambassador who recently helped India win a women's team silver medal and the women's gold at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, had to contend with illness and fatigue during her third round. Despite her physical struggles, she showed resilience to remain within striking distance of the leaders.
Exhaustion began to take its toll on the back nine, with her body struggling to keep pace with her intentions and errors costing her valuable shots over the closing stretch.
"The body is still recovering, and I know it is going to be a grind out there again tomorrow," Pranavi said.
The Indian golfer will hope to recover sufficiently overnight to mount a strong challenge in Sunday's final round.

Pornanong Phatlum Relies on Focus at DLF Golf and Country Club
Phatlum, a three-time Hero Women's Indian Open winner (at Delhi Golf Club), has found her rhythm despite the challenges posed by the Gary Player Course. Her previous victories in the tournament came before the current layout at DLF Golf and Country Club came into existence, making her performance this week particularly notable.
The Thai golfer has relied on concentration and consistency to negotiate the demanding course, putting herself in a strong position to contend for another title.
"I try to focus on every shot because it's a really tough course, and I think I did pretty good over the last three rounds," Phatlum said.
With Phatlum's experience, Tan's defending-champion credentials and Vani's home advantage, the contest is finely poised heading into the final 18 holes.
Three Indians in the Top 10
India's challenge extends beyond Vani and Pranavi. Tvesa Malik also remained inside the top 10, finishing tied eighth at one-under 215. Her performance adds to the strong showing by the home players at the tournament.
Chiara Tamburlini of Switzerland, who led after the opening two rounds, endured a difficult third day and slipped to tied 10th at one-over 217. The former leader will need a significant turnaround to re-enter the title race.
With Vani leading by just one stroke and several accomplished international players within striking distance, the Hero Women's Indian Open 2026 is set for a compelling finish on Sunday at DLF Golf and Country Club.
