Gurugram, March 28: Defending champion Eugenio Chacarra produced a composed two-under 70 to extend his lead to four shots after the third round of the Hero Indian Open 2026 at the DLF Golf and Country Club on Saturday (March 28), while the Indian contingent endured another difficult day on a punishing layout.
None of the Indian players managed to break into the top 20, with Om Prakash Chouhan the best-placed among them at one-over after a third-round 73. The rest of the home challenge struggled to keep pace as firm greens, thick rough and tricky pin positions made scoring increasingly difficult.

Chacarra moved to 10-under overall, opening a significant gap over nearest challengers Alex Fitzpatrick and MJ Daffue, who are tied for second at six-under.
"This course is about patience... everything can happen," Chacarra said after his round, reflecting on the grinding nature of DLF.
Despite not being at his fluent best, the Spaniard once again showcased maturity, mixing birdies with crucial pars to stay in control heading into the final day.
Both Fitzpatrick and Daffue endured hard-fought rounds of even-par 72 but remained within striking distance.
Fitzpatrick admitted the toll of the course: "It's a grind... I hit a couple of bad shots and still shot level par," he said.
Daffue, who has been among the most consistent performers this week, echoed similar sentiments: "This course is a monster... you have to be very precise," he noted.
The final group featuring Chacarra, Daffue and Fitzpatrick will tee off at 9:00 AM on Sunday, with the final round starting from 6:52 AM.
The chasing pack failed to make significant inroads as conditions stiffened. Freddy Schott stayed at five-under after a level-par 72, while David Law climbed into contention with a steady two-under 70.
South Africa's Casey Jarvis, who had electrified the field with a 64 on Friday, slipped back with a three-over 75, dropping to four-under.
Players like Ewen Ferguson and Andy Sullivan moved into the top 10 at four-under but remained well adrift of the leader.
The Indian challenge continued to fade as the course tightened its grip, with no home player able to break into the top 20 after three rounds.
Chouhan remained the leading Indian but slipped further behind after his 73. Youngster Manoj S, who had impressed in Round 2, could not sustain momentum and drifted down the standings.
Other Indians also struggled to cope with the relentless test. Shubhankar Sharma, Veer Ahlawat and Kartik Singh were unable to mount a charge, with inconsistent ball-striking and the unforgiving greens proving costly.
With narrow fairways and lightning-fast putting surfaces punishing even minor errors, the home contingent faces an uphill battle heading into the final round.
