A day after Nitu Ghanghas and Saweey Boora secured gold medals for India in the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships Final, it will now be the turn of ace pugilists Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain on Sunday (March 26) in the final of the showpiece competition.
Nitu clinched a gold medal in the 48 kg category while Saweety Boora bagged the yellow metal in the 75-81 kg category bout in front of a packed KD Jadhav Indoor Hall of Indira Gandhi Sports Complex and made the country proud.

Nitu defeated Mongolian boxer Lutsaikhany Altantsetseg in the Minimumweight (45-48 kg) category final, while Saweety got the better of Lina Wang of China in the 81 kg category final and also took away the grand prize money of $100,000. Both the boxers hail from Haryana and had no dearth of support in the arena.
On Sunday, the attention shifts to the reigning world champion Nikhat - who is the poster girl of the competition and Indian boxing as well. Nikhat will face 2022 Asian Championships winner Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam in the Light Flyweight category.
The Telangana boxer will also have a lot of home support tonight and will be aiming to feed off the atmosphere for she has been in top form in the competition where she has fought five bouts and won them all.
Tokyo Olympics bronze medal winner Lovlina Borgohain has also been in sublime form in the 75 kg category and the Assam pugilist will be aiming for nothing less than the gold medal and end the competition on a high for the host nation.
The Manipur-born boxer will take on 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze winner Caitlin Parker of Australia in the middleweight category. Lovlina's championship bout will be the final match of the evening and she will be in the mood to finish on a high.

Lovlina: I would say that I could only work on 90 per cent of my plan in the ring tonight but extremely happy to win a gold medal for my country tonight. Our plan was to play closely in the first two rounds and maintain some distance in the final round.

In the 54kg category, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Huang Hsiao-Wen of Chinese Taipei defeated Arias Castaneda Yeni Marcela of Colombia with a 5-0 scoreline and secured her second World Championships gold
India now have a total of three golds in the tournament after Nitu Ghanghas (48kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg) also won gold for the hosts on Saturday. Lovlina will be in action later tonight and India will be aiming to finish with all four yellow metals.
Nikhat has now became only the second Indian female boxer to win two golds at the World Championships alongside the legendary MC Mary Kom - who has claimed a record six gold medals in the competition.

Nikhat Zareen: I am on cloud nine after winning my second world championships title. What makes this gold special is that I competed in a different weight category and won the bout.
