New Delhi, March 23: Four Indian women boxers will be in action in the ongoing IBA Women's World Boxing Championships 2023 at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall here on Thursday (March 23).
Having already secured medals for the country, all four female boxers will be participating in their respective semi-final bouts of the tournament at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

Defending champion Nikhat Zareen, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Nitu Ghanghas, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain and Saweey Boora are the four Indian pugilists who won their respective quarter-final bouts and progressed to the last four.
Nitu won her match by RSC (referee stopped contest) while reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen won by split decision to confirm her second medal in the marquee event.
Saweety was the third Indian boxer to confirm a medal while Lovlina Borgohain - who is participating in her third world championships - also entered the semis.
The 22-year-old Nitu defeated two-time Worlds bronze medallist Madoka Wada of Japan in the quarterfinal bout. The Bhivani-boxer will face reigning Asian champion and last year's World Championships silver medallist Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan in the semi-final, in what will be a rematch of last year's World Championships quarter-finals.
Nikhat defeated two-time World Championships bronze medallist Chuthamat Raksat of Thailand. She will now face Rio Olympics bronze medallist Ingrit Valencia of Colombia in the semi-finals.
Three-time Asian medallist Saweety (81kg) defeated 2018 World Championships bronze medallist Viktoria Kebikava of Belarus in the quarters. She will now take on Emma-Sue Greentree of Australia in her next bout.
Lovlina Borgohain confirmed the fourth medal for India by defeating Adosinda Gamane Rady of Mozambique by unanimous decision in the 75 kg middleweight category to enter the semis. She will take on Li Qian of China in the final.

While interacting with the media persons after winning her bout, Lovlina said, "I am happy to have broken the bronze medal jinx by god's grace. I have won a couple of bronze medals at the World Championships and a bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics. Happy, that I have changed the colour of the medal."
It was a memorable evening for hosts India as all their semi-finalists across four weight categories i.e. Nitu Ghanghas (48kg), Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) and Saweety Boora (81kg) ended up winning their respective semi-final bouts and qualified for the finals. They'll be looking to win the gold and win the 0,000 prize money.
Saweety Boora confirms fourth silver medal for India in the IBA Women's World Boxing Championships 2023 in New Delhi. She win the bout against Sue-Emma Greentree of Australia by 4-3 and entered the final.
Another split verdict from the judges in Saweety's favour. She wins this round 3:2 and will be aiming to repeat the same performance, if not better, to impress the judges for the third round and emerge victorious.

Fourth India boxer in action tonight is Saweety Boora in the 81 kg category as she faces Sue- Emma Greentree of Australia in the semi-final.

Lovlina Borgohain defeats China's Li Qian in the semi-finals to qualify for the finals in the 75 kg category and confirms third silver medal for India in the competition. She wins it by slipt decision of 4-1.

Nikhat Zareen: It is a surreal feeling to make storm into my second straight world championships final and playing in front of home crowd made it special. It was a technical match against Ingrit but I used my experience to get past her. My mother is here at the stadium. She's watching me live for the first time and it makes the win even more special. I look to continue this momentum forward and once again clinch the yellow metal on 26th March.
Nitu Ghanghas lost to the same opponent in the quarter-finals bout at the World Boxing Championships last year in Istanbul. While interacting with the media after her bout, the Bhivani boxer said, "I lost to her last year but came back strongly this time around and won the bout. I have improved a lot as a boxer in the last one year and will take the confidence from here to the final and hopefully, win the gold."
