Gautam Buddha Nagar, May 26: An electric environment engulfed the Khelo India University Games 2022 Uttar Pradesh proceedings at Gautam Budhha Nagar as a total of 42 medals went up for grabs between Swimming and Shooting competitions.
The swimming competition being held at the SVSP Sports Complex saw a total of 30 medals being won across 10 events. While the shooting competitions are being held at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi.

A total of 12 medals were being grabbed between the Men & Women in the 10 M Air Rifle Men's and the Women's 50 M 3 position individual and Team events respectively in shooting.
Kabaddi, meanwhile, is nearing its business end as a thrilling final encounter for both men & women is slated tomorrow at the SVSP Sports Complex, Gautam Buddha Nagar while the semi-finals and finals for Basketball will also happen tomorrow at the GB University Indoor Stadium.
At the Dr Karni Singh Shooting range in New Delhi where the Shooting competition got underway, both the gold medals up for grabs were bagged by India international shooters. The first was won by Hriday Hazarika for Assam's Cotton University when he outshot Guru Kashi University's Arjun Babuta 252.5 to 250.8 in the final. Hriday is fresh from winning a world cup silver for India at Baku just over a week back.
Hriday was excited to have won a gold medal in a quality field. "Winning gold medal today was a big boost to my confidence," the Assam international shooter added.
Hriday's India teammate Ashi Chouksey won the women's 50m rifle 3 positions gold for Guru Nanak Dev University with a score of 461.6. Her college and India teammate Sift Kaur Samra won the silver with a score of 457.7.
Ashi, the defending champion was also elated to have retained her Khelo India University Games title. "I'm happy to have won my second gold medal of the Khelo India University Games," Ashi said in a post-match interaction.
The Men's 10 M Air Rifle Team event saw Shivaji University walk away with the Gold medal while Punjabi University Patiala won the Silver Medal. Chaudhary Charan Singh University won the Bronze medal.
In the women's 50 M 3 position team event Manipal University won the Gold Medal, while Punjabi University, Chandigarh won the Silver Medal. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar won the Bronze medal.
The swimming competitions began today at the SVSP Sports Complex today. Vikkas Prabhakar of SRM University, Tamil Nadu, emerged as the fastest male swimmer of the Games and Siva Sridhar of Jain University, Karnataka, became the first double gold medallist.

Vikkas won the men's 50m freestyle dash at Greater Noida's Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik (SVSP) indoor stadium, with a timing of 23.47. There was a dead-heat for silver as both Veer Khatkar of Maharshi Dayanand University and Shailesh Shwejal of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
MS came in second with 24.02 secs. Earlier in the day, the talented Aneesh Gowda of Christ University (deemed) bagged the first gold of the Games with a win in the men's 400m freestyle. He also won a bronze later in the day.
However, the pool clearly belonged to Siva Sridhar of Jain University on the day, as he nailed a couple of golds with wins in the men's 200m medley and the men's 100m backstroke.
In Kabaddi, the semi-finals for both men's and women's were held today. In the men's category Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo (Punjab) will face Chandigarh University, Mohali in the finals tomorrow.
Guru Kashi University made their way to the finals defeating Vels University, Chennai 57-39 while Chandigarh University sneaked their way into the finals through a thrilling 33-32-point win over SRM University, Chennai.
In the women's category KUK, Haryana will take on HPU, Shimla in the finals slated for 27th May 2023 at the SVSP Sports Complex, Gautam Buddha Nagar. KUK, Haryana defeated the University of Burdwan 50-27 to book their place in the finals while HPU, Shimla beat CRSU, and Jind 31-22 to set up their place in the summit clash.
In the semi-finals slated for 27th May 2023 Jain University Karnataka will face Panjab University, Chandigarh and Jamia Milia Islamiya will face Swarnim Gujarat Sports University Gujarat in the men's category while SRMIST University will face Lovely Professional University and University of Madras will take on MG University, Kottayam in the women's category.
