Indian tennis legend Leander Paes has praised Neeraj Chopra as a shining example for young athletes to emulate. Paes, who clinched the bronze medal in men's singles tennis at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, is confident that Chopra will make a strong bid for gold at the Paris Olympics 2024.
"Of course, he can (win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics 2024). Neeraj is one of the great athletes in our Olympic history," said Leander Paes (via TOI). Paris Olympics Special Page | Neeraj Chopra thanks Virat Kohli

Paes' admiration for Chopra is well-deserved, given the latter's impressive track record. The 26-year-old javelin thrower made history by clinching gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a throw of 87.58 meters to become India's first-ever track and field athlete to secure a gold medal.
With the Paris Olympics just around the corner, Neeraj Chopra is under immense pressure to perform, but Paes is confident that he will rise to the occasion. The veteran tennis star also expressed his wholehearted support for Chopra, citing his dedication, humility, and passion as qualities that set him apart. Paes is impressed by Chopra's ability to navigate pressure with ease, a trait that he believes young athletes can learn from.
"There's immense pressure on him, and I'm a big supporter of his hard work, humility, and passion. I fully support him and am pleased with how well he conducts himself as a human being, his humility and positivity are admirable. The way he handles pressure is something youngsters can learn from. I believe he will return with flying colours from Paris," Paes added.
The Indian javelin thrower has continued to excel in recent competitions, securing silver and gold medals in the Doha Diamond League (88.36m) and the National Federation Cup 2024 (82.27m), respectively. His most recent appearance at the Paavo Nurmi Games saw him clinch another gold medal with a distance of 85.97m.
To prepare for the Paris Olympics, Chopra has been training in Germany with his coach, Klaus Bartonietz, and physio, Ishaan Marwaha. He will head to Gloria Sports Arena in Turkiye for his final preparations before the Olympics. Chopra's ability to balance his schedule and avoid injuries has been crucial to his success.
