Fresh off his silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra achieved his season's best performance at the Lausanne Diamond League on Thursday (August 22).
Pakistan's reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem skipped the event as he continues to bask in the glory after creating an Olympic record at Stade de France earlier this month. But Paris 2024 bronze medallist Anderson Peters of Grenada created a meet record with a monstrous throw of 90.61m to top the table.

Chopra, who secured the silver with a season-best throw of 89.45m in Paris, came here with an aim to breach the 90m barrier but the Indian once again failed to cross it by a whisker although he kept his best for the last throw of the evening.
| Attempt | Distance (m) |
|---|---|
| 1st | 82.10 |
| 2nd | 83.21 |
| 3rd | 83.13 |
| 4th | 82.34 |
| 5th | 85.58 |
| 6th | 89.49 (SB) |
Season's best from Neeraj Chopra as the Indian star throws 89.49m in his final attempt and finishes second. This is the best throw from the Indian from what he achieved in the Paris Olympics final by a margin of 4 centimetres. He once again failed to touch the 90m mark by half a meter. But it was heartening to see Neeraj keeping his best for the last.
The fact that he wasn't pleased with his performance and brought his best even in his final throw speaks volumes about his character and mental fortitude.
Weber throws 82.33m in his final throw.
Anderson Peters throws 90.61m to create a meeting record with that monstrous throw and he seems to have secured the top spot tonight.
Peters, Weber and Chopra have qualified as the final three in the Diamond League Final at Lausanne.
Neeraj Chopra jumps to third spot with his throw of 85.58m in his fifth attempt of the evening. The Paris Olympics silver medallist has pipped Artur Felfner of Ukraine with his best throw of the evening.
Julian Weber - who is placed second currently - throws 80.47m in his penultimate throw of the evening.
After clicking 86-plus in his first four attempts, Anderson Peters throws 82.22m but he still sits at the top spot!
Earlier in the evening, British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith took her first Diamond League win in two years with 10.87 in the 100m.

Anderson Peters continues to extend his lead in the second attempt as well. The Grenada athlete threw 88.49 in his second attempt to stay at the top while Weber threw 87.08m in his second throw to stay at the second spot.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the javelin finals at Lausanne Diamond League 2024. Star India thrower Neeraj Chopra will be competing tonight as he aims to take a step closer towards his Diamdon League victory. Stay tuned for all the action and updates.
Chopra has earned gold and silver in the Diamond League, winning the gold at the Zurich Final Meet in 2022 with an 88.44m throw and taking silver at the Eugene Diamond League Final in 2023 with a throw of 83.80m.
In Lausanne, Chopra faced strong competition from Paris 2024 bronze medalists Anderson Peters (Grenada), Julian Weber (Germany) and Ukraine's Artur Felfner, among others. This was Chopra's second Diamond League appearance this season, having finished second to Vadlejch at the Doha Diamond League in May 2024, and here too he came second.
However, he brought his best of the season once again to showcase his consistency but the psychological barrier of 90m mark seems to be playing games with the former Olympic champion as he's yet to breach it.
