Paris Olympics Indian Archery Women s Team Rival Watch

As we look ahead to the Games, it’s crucial to examine the key rivals who could challenge India’s quest for medals in both individual and team events.

For the first time since the London 2012 Olympics, India will field a full-strength archery team at the Paris 2024 Olympics comprising three men and three women. The Indian women's team, featuring Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur, and Ankita Bhakat, will compete in all the following archery medal events: women’s team, mixed team, women’s individual.

Deepika Kumari

Deepika Kumari is one of the most celebrated archers in Indian history. A three-time Olympian, she has consistently been a prominent figure in international archery since her debut at the London 2012 Olympics. After a 14-month hiatus following childbirth, Deepika made a remarkable comeback by winning the Asia Cup in February 2024.

Her return has been marked by solid performances, including a silver medal at the Shanghai World Cup and reaching the semifinals in Yecheon. Deepika’s resilience and experience make her a key player for India in Paris.

Bhajan Kaur

Bhajan Kaur, a rising star in Indian archery, secured her spot at the Paris Olympics by obtaining an individual women's quota at the final archery Olympic qualifiers in Antalya. Her bronze medal in the mixed team event alongside Dhiraj Bommadevara at the World Cup Stage 3 in Antalya hints at her potential to contribute significantly.

This will be her Olympic debut, and she has already shown promise with her strong performances in the qualifiers. Bhajan’s ability to perform under pressure and her quick adaptation to the international stage make her a valuable asset to the Indian team.

Ankita Bhakat

Ankita Bhakat, another Olympic debutant, has been steadily climbing the ranks in Indian archery. Her inclusion in the team for Paris is a testament to her hard work and consistent performances. Ankita showcased her potential with a fourth-place finish at the Antalya World Cup.

While she couldn't secure a medal, her performance indicates a learning curve that could benefit the team in Paris. Her technical skill and focus will be crucial for India’s chances in both individual and team events.

Rivals to Watch in Team Events

South Korea

South Korea, a powerhouse in archery, will be a formidable rival in the team events. Led by Lim Si-hyeon, the world number two archer, the team includes Jeon Hunyoung and Nam Suhyeon. Their combined prowess and strategic coordination make them a top contender for the team gold medal.

United States

Casey Kaufhold, the world number one, will lead a strong American team aiming to clinch their first individual gold since 1976 and make a significant impact in the team events. The American team's depth and Kaufhold's leadership are key factors in their pursuit of Olympic success.

Rivals to Watch in Individual Events

Casey Kaufhold (USA)

Leading the global rankings is Casey Kaufhold, the world number one archer from the United States. Kaufhold has demonstrated exceptional form, consistently delivering top performances throughout the season. She aims to end America's long wait for an individual gold medal in women's archery, last achieved by Luann Ryon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. Kaufhold's consistent scoring and composure under pressure make her a formidable contender for the top podium spot.

Marie Horáčková (Czech Republic)

Marie Horáčková, the reigning World Champion from the Czech Republic, is another significant rival. Despite a slightly erratic form this season, her extensive experience on the world stage is invaluable. Horáčková's ability to handle pressure and leverage her past successes positions her as a strong contender capable of turning the tide in her favour during crucial moments.

Alejandra Valencia (Mexico)

Alejandra Valencia of Mexico is set to make her fourth Olympic appearance in Paris. Known for her resilience and experience, Valencia narrowly missed the top spot in previous outings. Her journey through three prior Olympics has honed her skills and steeled her determination, making her a serious threat in the pursuit of the elusive gold medal. Valencia's recent performances, including her runner-up finish at the World Championships, highlight her readiness to challenge for the top honor.

Lim Si-hyeon (South Korea)

South Korea’s Lim Si-hyeon continues her country’s rich tradition in archery. Currently ranked second in the world, Lim has already made a significant impact at just 20 years old, including a victory at the first stage of the 2024 World Cup in Shanghai. Backed by a nation renowned for archery excellence, Lim’s blend of youthful vigor and exceptional skill positions her as a top contender for the gold medal in Paris.
