When is the Opening Ceremony and what time does it start?
The Games will be officially declared open at a glittering ceremony in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana Stadium, which has a capacity of 74,738. The Opening Ceremony starts at 8 PM Local Time on August 5 (Friday). However with a big time difference, it will be 4.30 AM (August 6, Saturday) in India when the ceremony begins. It will last for over 4 hours.
India Standard Time - 8 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Brazil time.
Which TV channel will telecast the Opening Ceremony in India?
Star Sports network (Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 and also High Definition channels) will broadcast the Opening Ceremony and has also got the rights to show all the other sports events during the Olympics. Commentary will be available both in Hindi and English. Live streaming is on starsports.com and Hotstar.
Who will light the Olympic flame?
Brazilian football legend Pele has been given the honour to light the Olympic flame at the Opening Ceremony. Pele has even composed a song "Esperanca" for Olympics.
