Sachin Yadav Reveals Serious Elbow Injury, Surgery Recommended; Asian Games Qualification in Doubt

New Delhi, June 21: India's rising javelin throw star Sachin Yadav is facing an uncertain future after revealing that doctors have recommended surgery for a serious elbow injury that has already put his participation in upcoming competitions in jeopardy.

Speaking exclusively to myKhel, the World Championships 2025 finalist confirmed the severity of the issue.

Sachin Yadav Reveals Serious Elbow Injury Surgery Recommended Asian Games Qualification in Doubt

"I have a very serious elbow injury, and the doctors have recommended surgery. We'll see what happens," Sachin Yadav told myKhel.

The development comes as a major setback for Indian athletics, with the 25-year-old emerging as one of the country's most promising javelin throwers over the past two seasons.

Injury Has Been Lingering for Months

Sachin has been battling the elbow injury since competing at the Indian Athletics Series-3 in New Delhi earlier this year.

The problem reportedly worsened following his appearance at the Rome Diamond League, where he continued competing despite discomfort. Sources had earlier informed myKhel that the athlete was scheduled to undergo detailed medical assessments, including an MRI scan, to determine the extent of the damage.

On June 10, myKhel had first reported that Sachin was likely to miss the Commonwealth Games due to the injury and could also be ruled out of the Inter-State Athletics Championships.

The latest update from the athlete himself now suggests the situation could be more serious than initially feared.

Asian Games 2026 Participation Under Threat

The timing of the injury could hardly be worse. The upcoming Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar are not just another domestic competition. The event will serve as the qualification tournament for the 2026 Asian Games, making it one of the most important meets on the Indian athletics calendar.

If Sachin is unable to compete, it could significantly impact his chances of securing qualification for the continental showpiece event.

With surgery now a possibility, the focus may shift from immediate competition to long-term recovery and rehabilitation.

A Big Blow for Indian Javelin

Sachin has steadily established himself among India's leading javelin throwers and was one of the country's standout performers at the World Championships in 2025.

His rise has coincided with India's growing strength in the discipline, spearheaded by Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and supported by a new generation of talented throwers looking to make their mark on the international stage.

Rohit Yadav and Neeraj Chopra - who made his comeback after a gap of nearly nine months - have qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Neeraj's performance at the Doha Diamond League earlier this week, marked his return and his 82.77m effort in his second attempt secured the CWG 2026 qualification standard. He then produced his best effort of the evening, 85.69m, in the third round. This throw of 85.69m is the best throw of the season for India.

Whether Neeraj will participate at Inter-State remains to be seen but an extended spell on the sidelines would not only disrupt Sachin's momentum but also reduce India's depth in men's javelin ahead of major international competitions.

Waiting for a Final Decision

At present, no final decision has been made regarding surgery or his participation in upcoming events. The Uttar Pradesh-born athlete and his medical team are expected to assess the situation carefully before determining the next course of action. However, his own admission that doctors have recommended surgery indicates that a lengthy recovery period cannot be ruled out.

For now, Indian athletics fans will hope that one of the country's brightest javelin prospects can overcome the setback and return to competition stronger than ever.

With the Asian Games qualification cycle underway, the coming weeks could prove crucial in determining the next chapter of Sachin Yadav's career.
