New Delhi, Sep 8: Newly appointed Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has set the balls rolling immediately after taking the charge.

The former Olympic silver medallist shooter became the first sportsperson to hold this position. Rajyavardhan, who is an athlete himself, made his intentions clear on his very first day in office when he said sportspersons are the only VIPs and the country.

"Respect for every athlete and facilities for every player who is representing the country [The philosophy of sports ministry]. The environment and attitude in this ministry need to change. There is only one VIP and that is the sportsperson and nobody else," Rathore told officials in the ministry.

Rathore helps the sprint star from Delhi:

Rathore, a champion shooter, has now helped a young sprinter from Delhi to realise his dreams which might just help the teenage prodigy to fulfill his dream of winning an Olympic medal for India in the 100 meters.

15-year-old Nisar Ahmed, who set U-16 national records last week, approached the ministry for financial aids as the little bit of money he receives under sports quota isn't enough to supplement hiss daily dietary requirements. He was promised by the former Sports Minister Vijay Goel who also gave him some money.

While talking to reporters Nisar said,"I get a little bit of monetary support from GAIL, but that is not sufficient to meet my dietary requirements. The previous Sports Minister Vijay Goel called me and promised that the ministry would ensure I get me some sponsors."

On September 3, the 15-year-old had set U-16 national records while winning gold medals in 100m and 200m at Delhi State Athletics meet. As per reports, Nisar's timing in the 100m was even better than that of the winner in the senior category this year.

Nisar's father, Mohammad Haq, is a rickshaw puller and his mother, Shafikunisha, works as a domestic help in the nearby Ashok Vihar to earn the daily bread. Nisar lives with his family in a 10X10 room in a slum nearby the railway tracks.

When the child prodigy's news spread, the new sports minister sprang into action and directed the Sports Authority of India to provide the necessary assistance to the 15-year-old athlete from the national capital.

"Nisar Ahmed, the sprint star, has been contacted by @Media_SAI (Sports Authority of India). He will be provided required support. Recognizing & nurturing talent is our priority," he wrote on his Twitter handle.
