Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) 2024 is back, promising its biggest and most exciting season yet. The Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai is the battleground where eight teams will vie for the prestigious title.
The tournament kicked off with a thrilling opening tie between the defending champions, Athlead Goa Challengers, and the debutants, Jaipur Patriots, on Thursday, August 22.

League Stage: The eight teams are split into two groups of four for fixture assignments. Each team plays five ties during this stage, including matches against three teams within their group and two random opponents from the other group.
Match Scoring: All five matches in a tie, comprising 15 games, are played even if a team secures the tie by winning eight games. Each game contributes to the team's overall point tally, which determines their ranking in the league table.
Knock-Out Stage: The top four teams from the league stage advance to the knock-out stage, consisting of two semi-finals and a final. The first-placed team faces the fourth-placed team, while the second-placed team meets the third-placed team in the semi-finals.
Matches and Games: Each tie consists of five matches (men's singles, women's singles, mixed doubles, men's singles, and women's singles), with each match comprising three games. The first team to reach 11 points in a game wins, with the 11th point being a Golden Point if scores are tied at 10.
Tie Winner: The team with the most games won out of 15 is declared the tie winner in the league stage. The knock-out stage concludes the tie as soon as a team wins eight games.
Player Participation: A player can play a maximum of two matches in a tie, including mixed doubles, but only one singles match.
In the first tie of the season, Athlead Goa Challengers demonstrated why they are the defending champions by securing a 9-6 victory over Jaipur Patriots. The match was intense, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination, but ultimately, the experience of Goa Challengers proved decisive.
