Nicholas Willis Biography

Willis's early career was influenced by his older brother Steve, who competed in middle-distance running at the university level in the USA. Steve's knee injury led Nick to be cautious about his training. This approach helped him avoid over-training and injuries.

Injuries and Setbacks

Throughout his career, Willis faced several injuries. In May 2017, he sustained a shin injury. He also had a strained calf in May 2013 and a hip injury in 2010. Additionally, he underwent knee surgery in March 2010 and hip surgery in 2009.

Willis was New Zealand's flag bearer during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In 2009, he received the title of Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to athletics. His bronze medal from the 2008 Beijing Olympics was later upgraded to silver.
