As a child, Nico was always full of energy. He participated in various sports like judo, gymnastics, water polo, and hockey. His journey into Para triathlon began as a joke. A friend, who was a doctor, suggested he try it. Initially, Nico did not see himself as disabled and was hesitant.

Turning Point

In 2018, Nico attended a sports talent day at Papendal Sports Centre in the Netherlands. This event marked a significant turning point in his life. Encouraged by his friend's suggestion and his own athletic background, he decided to give Para triathlon a serious try.

Coaching and Training

Nico trains under the guidance of Bas de Bruin, the national coach for the Netherlands. His rigorous training regime has helped him achieve remarkable results on the international stage. His dedication to both his sport and his profession as a teacher is commendable.

Ambitions for Paris 2024

Looking ahead, Nico aims to win gold at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. This goal drives him to push his limits and strive for excellence in every training session and competition.
