Batum currently plays for the Los Angeles Clippers in the United States. He has been coached by Tyronn Lue at the club level and Vincent Collet for the French national team. His preferred positions are shooting guard and small forward.

He made his international debut for France in 2009. Over the years, he has earned nicknames like "Nico," "Nic," and "Batman." His idols include US basketball legends Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan.

Injuries and Challenges

Batum has faced several injuries throughout his career. In October 2019, he broke the middle finger of his left hand and missed 11 games. He hyper-extended the same finger in December 2019. In March 2018, he dealt with bursitis in his Achilles tendon.

He tore a ligament in his left elbow in October 2017 and had a knee injury in 2012. Additionally, he underwent shoulder surgery before the 2009/10 NBA season.

Achievements and Contributions

Batum was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2006 U18 European Championship. His father, Richard Batum, was also a professional basketball player in France but tragically passed away from an aneurysm during a match when Nicolas was young.

In 2017, Batum invested in ASVEL Basket (men) and Lyon ASVEL (women) clubs in Villeurbanne, France. He serves as operations director for both teams. He emphasises that few active French athletes invest their time and money to this extent.

Charity Work

In 2011, Batum launched the MAMA Foundation in memory of his late father. In 2020, he and his wife Aurelie donated 40,000 Euros to help a seven-year-old boy from Toulouse travel to the United States for neurosurgery. The boy was born with cerebral palsy.

NBA Draft

Batum was selected in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets as the 25th overall pick. He was immediately traded to the Portland Trail Blazers and made his NBA debut in October 2008.
