Olga Kuzenkova Biography

In February 1994, she made history by becoming the first woman to have a world record for the hammer recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Her throw of 66.84 metres set a new benchmark in the sport.

Three years later, in June 1997, she achieved another milestone. At a meet in Munich, Germany, she became the first woman to throw a hammer more than 70 metres. Her record-breaking throw of 71.22 metres was soon surpassed by her own performance at the same event, where she threw 73.10 metres.

World Championships Glory

Her career reached new heights at the 2005 World Championships. After two poor opening throws in the final, she called out to the heavens for help from the memory and spirit of her deceased grandfather. This moment of desperation turned into triumph as she threw 75.10 metres to claim the gold medal.

Personal Life and Education

She is married to Aleksandr Seleznyev, who also serves as her coach. Apart from her sporting achievements, she has a diverse background. She holds a degree in Physical Education from the University of Smolensk in Russia and speaks Russian fluently.

In addition to her athletic career, she serves in the army and works in a special police department fighting against drug smuggling. She also holds a diploma in law.
