Nicolai started playing beach volleyball at 18, transitioning from indoor volleyball. He found the sport enjoyable and decided to pursue it further. His international debut came in 2008, representing Italy.

Club and Coaching

Nicolai plays for CS Aeronautica Militare in Italy. His coach, Matteo Varnier, has been a constant presence throughout his career. Varnier initially served as an example, then as a teammate, and now as a coach.
