His international recognition includes being named European Male Diver of the Year in 2013 by LEN and FINA Male Diver of the Year in 2010. He also served as a flag bearer for Germany at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo alongside beach volleyball player Laura Ludwig.
Throughout his career, he faced several injuries. In early 2019, he sustained nerve damage to two fingers, a tear in a back muscle, and damaged neck vertebrae while training on a trampoline. Despite these setbacks, he continued to compete, although he was hampered by chronic neck pain later that year.
In 2018, he competed at the European Championships with injuries to his right foot, thigh, and adductor muscle. He also dealt with a knee injury that sidelined him for several months but made a comeback at the German Championships in Berlin.
He resides in Berlin with his partner Marcela Maric, who has represented Croatia in diving. She placed 25th in the 3m springboard at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and competed at the 2021 European Championships in Budapest.
Apart from his diving career, he is an armed forces athlete and a student. He is pursuing higher education in Business Administration, Language Studies - English, and Sports Science at Humboldt University in Berlin.
After winning bronze in the synchronised 3m springboard with Lars Rudiger at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he announced that he would not compete at the 2024 Paris Games. Reflecting on his Olympic journey, he said it was emotional to say goodbye after competing in four Olympic Games and winning three medals across different disciplines.
His sporting philosophy is encapsulated in his motto: "Suffering must be accepted." He looks up to Russian diver Dmitri Sautin as his hero.
