Rebecca Giddens Biography

Rebecca's passion for paddling started as a family activity. Her family mastered local rivers before venturing nationwide and worldwide to race slalom boats. While her brother and sister eventually stopped paddling to focus on their careers, Rebecca continued to pursue the sport.

Training and Coaching

Rebecca trains with her husband, Eric Giddens, who also serves as her coach. Their training regime includes weightlifting, long and short distance water workouts, and flatwater paddling. They also engage in cross-training activities like roller blading, hiking, biking, and surfing.

In November, they host a white water training camp in Atlanta. In February, they travel to France for workouts. During March and April, they travel four hours every weekend to Bakersfield, California to battle the Current River.

Achievements and Challenges

Rebecca's most memorable sporting achievements include winning gold at the 2002 World Championship and competing at the 2000 Olympics. However, her journey has not been without challenges. She underwent shoulder surgery in 1998 but continued to excel in her sport.

Personal Life and Interests

Rebecca holds a degree in Business from Georgia State University. She is fluent in English and Spanish. Outside of kayaking, she enjoys coin collecting, surfing, rock climbing, mountain biking, volleyball, and basketball.

Her husband Eric is the most influential person in her career. Rebecca's family remains her heroes. She lives by the motto: "Remind yourself why you got into the sport - for the love of the game."
