Challenges and Injuries

Despite numerous injuries, Limardo has shown resilience. He won individual gold at the 2019 Pan American Games despite elbow and hand pain. He later withdrew from the team competition due to knee and back issues. In 2013, he was hospitalised for malaria for 12 days.

Achievements and Honours

Limardo's accolades include being inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Fencing Federation in 2020. He was Venezuela's flag bearer at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In 2012 and 2015, he was named Sportsman of the Year in Bolivar state.

Philosophy and Motto

Limardo lives by the motto: "I don't measure success by the triumphs I've achieved. But for the times that I have managed to get up in difficulties." This reflects his resilience through various challenges.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, Limardo aims to win a team medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics alongside his brothers. He also plans to take up roles with the Venezuelan Olympic Committee and national fencing federation post-competition.

Limardo has served as president of the Venezuelan Athletes' Commission and as an alternate deputy at the Venezuelan National Assembly in 2015. He also held a position as president of the athletes' commission at the International Fencing Federation.

The Ruben Limardo Foundation

The Ruben Limardo Foundation was established to support Venezuelan athletes by sending them to Poland for training. The project aims to provide quality of life to athletes and make fencing accessible to children in Venezuela.

Olympic Disappointment

After winning gold in London 2012, Limardo faced early exits in subsequent Olympics but remains determined for Paris 2024. "It was a big disappointment... but I love this sport, so I am not going to give up," he said.
